Prayer Connection I would like to pray for my students daily, but it is more like weekly and I cannot pray with them. I find it easy to pray for those struggling, but I forget to pray for those who are doing well. I also pray for myself and the rest of the staff at school that we will say the right words and guide them in the right direction or be comfort to them when they are struggling. |

Camtasia I used Camtasia for the first time to make an instructional video on how to log in to and navigate the APEX learning website which is the online curriculum that we use at our school. Now when I have a new student, they can watch this short tutorial to help them get started. The great thing about video lessons is that they are available anytime and they can be replayed for better comprehension. Camtasia was very easy to use and to edit which makes it an ideal tool for novices like myself or for student projects. |
Videos As A Learning Tool
The flipped classroom is a technique that I use in my chemistry classes. I have students watch Khan Academy videos at home and then we do problems and practice in class when I am there to help them or when they can collaborate with their peers and learn together. The flipped classroom has helped students understand the material better, has reduced frustration and has improved grades. I also like to use Ted Talks and Ted Ed videos in all of my science classes. http://bartsblackboard.com/files/2010/03/the.simpsons.s17e16.jpg

Google Hangout
Google Hangout has many of the same abilities as Skype and it can be a valuable tool for communicating, collaborating and creating. I could see using Google hangout or Skype for meeting with my students when they are out of town or if I wanted to make a recording of some collaborative work for later use. The more participants that you have on Google Hangouts, the more the video and sound begin to lag. I need to do more work to see what is the optimum number of participants on a call. I do love the hats and props in Google hangout, they can be distracting but I think they could also be very engaging for students. The Google Hangout with my awesome cadre mates can be accessed below.
