My name is Donna Misthos and I am a blessed woman who also happens to be a Mom, Wife, high school science teacher and a student of Azusa Pacific University where I am pursuing my master's degree in Education Technology as part of the amazing cadre 25. I received my BS in microbiology with a minor in chemistry from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and my teaching credential from California State University at Northridge. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, photography, music and travel.

Currently, I teach all of the science classes; biology, chemistry, geoscience, health and marine science, at Century Academy in Thousand Oaks California. Century Academy is a hybrid online public high school which offers a personalized and individualized education unique to each students. Our graduates are prepared for any path they choose after high school where some attend top universities such as Princeton, others attend community college, some serve in the military or pursue a trade.
I am one of the original four (4) teachers that started Century Academy and helped designed every aspect of the school and how it runs. Century Academy received the California Distinguished School Award after three (3) years. We are the only school of its kind to receive that award and we received the award faster than any other school in Ventura County.
In EDTC 517 digital communications course work, I hope to learn to use digital tools to communicate synchronously and asynchronously with my students and with my peers. I also hope to be able to integrate these tools into my science curriculum to give my students the technical skills that they will need to succeed in the increasing digital world of the 21st century.
APA Citations - The American Psychological Association citation protocol is used in this course and all courses in the Education Technology Master program at Azusa Pacific University. For quick references on how to properly cite sources using the APA style, The Purdue Online Writing Lab or Purdue OWL is a great website. After viewing the Harvard tutorial on APA style papers, I had a few A-Ha's including the necessity of using unbiased language and the need to make a hard copy of your electronic source that you are citing in case the electronic source disappears. Everything that is not original work must be cited to avoid plagiarism.
